PLAGUE

Praga, é uma calamidade. Praga, é a abundância de males, de organismos e não-organismos nocivos e desagradáveis. O ser humano é uma praga. A escuridão da mente apodera-se dos que se julgam incólumes e contagia tudo o que a rodeia. E, quando as sombras se alastram, os seres transformam-se em coisas, e as coisas em seres. Presos em si mesmos e na noite em que habitam. Procurando conforto no lixo que produzem.

O Não-Homem, interpretado por Simão Collares Rodrigues, dotado apenas de uma “meia-visão”, parte numa busca por um estado de conforto, à medida que interage com o meio que o rodeia. Tal como Poe afirmou ter permanecido demasiado tempo dentro de si mesmo, e que essa clausura o levou à loucura (“I remained too much inside my head and ended up losing my mind.”), também o Simão foi desafiado a encarar um estado de espírito profundamente introspectivo e a procurar-se na penumbra da sua mente. Habituado à escuridão e alheio à intensa exposição à luz à qual é submetido periodicamente, o Não-Homem move-se independentemente, enquanto o Profundador, interpretado por mim, como fotógrafa, o persegue, num bailado de trevas que apenas termina quando este encontra, por fim, um refúgio psíquico. Uma terceira personagem surge, o Afuroador, interpretado por Henrik Ferrara, que imprudentemente, como uma sombra, segue o Não-Homem e o Profundador nas suas buscas, numa postura quase voyeurista, demonstrando o lado de quem vaziamente olha a insanidade sem se deixar contagiar, mas também sem a procurar compreender.

 

Plague is a calamity. Plague is the abundance of evils, organisms and non-organisms harmful and unpleasant. The human being is a plague. The darkness of the mind takes hold of those who think they are unscathed and infects everything around it. And when the shadows spread, beings turn into things, and things into beings. Arrested in themselves and in the night they dwell. Looking for comfort in the trash they produce. ​

The "Non-Man", performed by Simão Collares Rodrigues, was endowed only with a “half-sight" as he interacts with its surroundings. Just as Edgar Allan Poe claimed to have remained too long within himself, and that this enclosure drove him insane (“I remained too much inside my head and ended up losing my mind.”), Simão was challenged to face a state of insanity, a deeply introspective spirit and to search into the dimness of his mind. Accustomed to darkness and oblivious to the intense exposure to light to which he is periodically subjected, the "Non-Man" moves independently, while the "Profounder", performed by me as the photographer, pursues him in a ballet of darkness that only ends when he encounters, at least, a psychic refuge. "Afuroador", performed by Henrik Ferrara, recklessly, like a shadow, follows the Non-Man and the Profounder in their quests, in an almost voyeuristic stance, demonstrating the side of one who blankly looks at insanity without being infected, but also without trying to understand it.
